Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why does your shop charge $26.95 for an oil change when others advertise $14.95 to $19.95?

A: We use a better oil filter and base oil than many shops. There is a major difference in how this can affect engine life and        performance. We have also found that the companies that advertise like that consistently use it as a loss leader. They get you in the door and try to up sell. We will not do that. We will tell you if we see something that will affect your safety or the life of your vehicle but will not try to lure you in the door knowing that we are looking for more work. We have also noticed a tendency of some customers to shop for the lowest oil change price around. This type of customer has no desire to develop a working relationship with a good repair shop. This leads to an automatic lack of trust on the part of the customer. We would rather devote our time and attention to those good customers that have come to know and trust us from years of service than to those who would seem to want to USE us for a cheap oil change.

Q: Why don't you accept some of your own coupons, at times?

A: I routinely give my loyal customers discounts on their repairs. Often times those discounts meet or exceed the value of a coupon. I can't discount an already discounted service. This is the reason why most coupons say 'Must mention offer prior to repairs'. This way I can tell the customer up front what I may have already discounted for them.

Q: Why don't you accept American Express?

A: The very simple fact is that it is much more expensive to accept. Most customers who have an American Express also have a Visa or MasterCard. After interviewing many customers over the years, I have found that the customers would rather that I keep my prices low than have to cover the costs of those more expensive cards. Every time a credit card is taken, a transaction fee is charged to the business or merchant. A percentage of the sale is also taken. With some cards (especially those that give the card owner rewards or miles) the fees can be very high. Some shops in our immediate vicinity charge a labor rate that is up to $20 per hour higher. Again, I have found that customers would rather sacrifice the rewards and pay a cheaper price up front.

Q: Why don't you accept credit card payment over the phone to pick up a vehicle after hours?

A: One reason is related to the question and answer above. The fees involved in taking a card number over the phone are higher than a card that is swiped in the office and we don't build those fees into our rates. Credit card companies take a further risk of fraud without the card present and charge more to cover the risk.  Also, with all of today's frivolous lawsuits, we have to obtain signatures on every repair order to protect ourselves as does any business.
